CLEP for Humanities

Published

I haven't taken a CLEP exam before. Would you recommend it for the Humanities requirement? If so, how do you apply for a CLEP exam, and how much time did you study?

I'm a little over half way finished with my exams and figured I should go ahead and knock out Humanities now.

Thanks,

You would first look into a local college's testing center to see if they offer CLEP testing. If so, look at the schedule, pick you exam, and study away. Pay attention to the testing fee which is separate from the actual exam fee. Usually the testing fee is paid in advance (upon scheduling your exam) and the exam fee is paid on the day of the exam using a credit/debit card. The easiest CLEP exam is Analyzing & Interpreting Literature, which requires literally no studying at all, unless you want to review a few literary terms. It is worth 6 credits. Honestly, I heard about the exam on one day, scheduled it the next day, and took/passed it the following day.

Check with your advisor, though, before scheduling any CLEP exam to make sure none of them are duplicate of anything else you may have already taken. I think the website that has the list of all CLEP exams is http://www.collegeboard.com. Look over that list, have it handy and place a check mark besides the ones that your advisor gives the ok for. Find your study materials on eBay. But for me, instantcert.com was a lifesaver. I took several exams within a week of studying only using their flashcards. One of the exams I took was after reviewing for a total of 3 days.

Good luck with your remaining requirements!

Thanks BSNbeDONE. This is really helpful for me. I'll check out instantcert.com as well.
