Clayton State Nursing Program

Good Afternoon! My name is Denice, I'm new to this forum. I figured this would be a GREAT way to get some insight in this career field I plan on pursuing. I'm a little off track, but I'm working on getting back. But I wanted to know if anyone has/had/is familiar with the Nursing Program at Clayton State or if you know anyone...what are your/their thoughts on the program overall?

Thanks!

Denice

I would look for programs that have no exit exam in order to take the NCLEX. I have a friend that goes there and graduated in May. She and others are still trying to pass the HESI exit exam. They allow you to take it 10 times, and you must score 900 or above to pass. She and others are on there 5th try on Wednesday. I pray they pass. According to her, they do not prepare you well for the exit exam. They graduated in May and cannot take the NCLEX until they pass HESI. She always makes above 800 but has not reached 900 yeat. My advice to you is go to the campus and talk to the people that are still taking the exit exam. They are there for prep. class on Wednesday mornings in the nursing building. If you do not live in the area, you can also look up HESI exit on this site and read the post. HESI has stopped many nursing students from receiving a BSN. Don't mean to scare you, just please make sure you are aware of the extra exams before starting a program. I would look in to Georgia Baptist in Atlanta. They are about the only BSN program in Georgia that has no exit exam. You may also want to look out of state.

GOODLUCK!!;)

Thank you very much, Vanasd! That is very valuable information to know, definately a deal breaker. I've never heard of the HESI, so this is good to know and research too. I hope they pass, "5th times a charm"??? I'll be looking into other nursing programs as you said that don't require an exit exam that'll stop me from taking the NCLEX.

Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere of GA schools that require the HESI exit exam? I would have never realized that could be an issue until I read it here.

Thanks!

No I do not have a list. I am from GA, and to my knowledge over 97% of the Nursing Programs have some sort of exit exam. If not Hesi there is one of some other type. Georgia Baptist in Atlanta does not have a exit exam. I would just call around and ask the schools you are interested in. I am in the process of looking into programs and found a BSN program up north that does not require and entrance or an exit exam.

Thanks

I am so sorry. I was thinking you meant Columbus State University in Columbus GA. But I do know that Clayton State also has an exit program. So I would continue to look for schools that don't.

Hi, can you tell me of any school that don't required and entry exam

Hello Denice, I had my 1st bachelor's degree in Clayton state although it's healthcare management. As far as I know for the nursing, they(clayton state) have a very good nursing program-highly competitive(lots of nursing schools are). I know of their entrance exam which is NET, not sure if they have an exit exam but if they do, I don't think it's that bad. Alot of my friends did their BSN there, graduated and passed the NCLEX on their first try. Personally, I didn't pursue clayton state because I was asked to retake A&PII and microbiology cos I had C's in them and remember, due to the competitiveness, classes taken more than once may be put into consideration. Anyways, I got accepted in FL.:)

Im currently in my first semester at Clayton. All I can say is that its not terrible and it probably has the same problems other schools have. Most schools have entrance exams, the only one I know of that doesn't is Emory. I guess they can fore-go an entrance exam if someone is willing to pay 60K for a degree. Yes Clayton does have an exit exam, but I am guessing most people pass because they only have about 10% that fail out of the program. If you do your work study like you have never studied before and try not to bring attention to yourself, you'll do fine at Clayton.

My 2 cents.

Hi. I know this is an old post but wanted to reply anyway. I graduated with a BSN from Clayton State 10 years ago. Unless they dramatically changed the program, I would say it was Very good. We started with 60 students in our graduating class and 50 of them graduated. Just be prepared to work your butt off.

Hi, I am applying to programs now..and I got a C in A&P 1. What school did you get accepted to? Im a FL resident but not sure the best school for me.
