Choosing a specialty

I know I have some time to think about this but I'm curious. What fields in nursing is best for someone who is extremely shy?

Oh man, that is kind of hard to answer. You will have to get rid of some of that shyness. I thought I was shy too but trust me when you walk into that patients room you have to be confident. It is something that will take time to get over but I leave my shyness when I walk in the door. Maybe a position where you don't have to talk to anyone. lol Because in all the nursing positions I know of for the most part you have to stand in front of a patient and speak to them face to face.

I wish I could help more.

I think it would be in OR. I am shy too and it's hard for me to adjust here because I am a foreign grad and the nursing practice here is different. I'm gonna start my first nursing job soon and I'm so anxious. I have to overcome my shyness and be confident.

That's a tough one. Are you shy with your patients, your coworkers, or both? If it was one or the other it would be easier to point you in a direction, but if it's both than I think you are just going to have to work through it. There's no nursing job that I know of that requires minimal interaction with both other coworkers and patients.

I'm fairly shy and I work in the ER, lol. I learned to get over my shyness real quick!
