Chloraprep

Our nurse educator refuses to allow us to use it. I am nurse Chlorhexidine...I love it. She thinks that the nurses will not use it properly by painting it on like duraprep. Do you use it in your OR? Do you have CHG haters too? Any good arguments to try to convince her to provide Chloraprep in our OR?

Chloraprep should be used exactly the same way that Duraprep is used. I don't know why your NE is so resistant to using Chlora. It does work well.

Apparently your nurse educator isn't all That educated. Chloraprep has the best studies out from infection prevention of all prep solutions. Just make sure to prep the sugery site for 30 seconds and work your way out..... betadine has its place still. Our hospital system has mandated it as the prep of choice.

get your infection control nurses in on the discussion...

Canesduke, they are applied differently. Chloraprep is scrubbed on vigorously and Duraprep is painted on. Perhaps I misunderstand your comment.

If she is so concerned about staff not applying it correctly, why not just have an inservice on it? In my OR, almost every surgeon uses Chloraprep. We have been inserviced on it countless times so that the new people can learn the proper technique. With all of the information about Chloraprep that is out there, it seems crazy not to use it.
