Children's Tylenol

Published

i'm a nursing student and this is just a random question. children's tylenol says for the dosage give 2 tabs for 2-3 years old, then 3 tabs for 4-5 years old, and so on. why give multiple tabs at one time if you can just give 1 stronger dose tab?

Because kid medication comes in dosages that are right for kids 2-12(most of the time) so if a kid is 4 they would less then a kid that is 12. Example...a kid that is 4 years old may need 1mg and a 12 year may need 3mg so a 4 year old will take one 1mg and a 12 year old will take 5 1mg. Kids medication is for kids 2-12 so the dosages would be different depening on the age. Most medications are newborn to 1, 2 to 12 and 12 and older.

There are different formulations of tylenol intended for different age groups and children with different weights. Doctors will either write the order for equivalent dosages to account for different formulations being on hand, or nurses will make the necessary adjustments to insure the child is receiving the prescribed dose.
