cheating classmates!

I agree with CaffeineRX -- an e-mail alerting the prof to the situation sounds like the way to go.

We had a cheater in our a&P1 n Micro classes (AKA: Crazy Chick). She'd go around knocking on ppl's car door windows before tests and offer us $$$ so that we would allow her to look at our answers! *****! She was dirt-poor too, so "where did she get the $$$" you may ask. I can't tell for sure; but, once she stole my friends wallet while at the library and it ended up with the cops showing up (looks like she had been picked up in the past for assault). She had many different cheating scams to going on. Too many to list. One day we all just go fed up with her after she failed to turn in her scantron after the AP1 final. The professor had had it with her and got very upset after she tried to blame him for losing her answer sheet... We had enough, after her little "show" of crying and screaming and telling she was going to "have his job" and "go higher up above his head" (pls. note this was a prof that we all loved and who has a great reputation all over the tri-county area). We all stood up and turned her in!! comes to find out, she had tried to bribe EVERY single person in the class, after attempts to bribe the professor failed! She was always crying and telling ridiculous stories about her personal life that no one believed... I have no idea what happened to her, but I'm telling that I will not be caught dead in clinicals with her! I will not have "Crazy Chick" with access to drugs and needles anywhere near me!! God help us all if she ever gets in the program (and yes, we all got together and tried to talk to the dean who did not do anything about it and said we were "trying to make waves"... Well, they were warned...

I personally can't just stand by and watch someone cheat. I would report them to the professor as soon as possible. Especially if they cheated off me, man would I make a ruckus about it. But everyone is entitled to make there own decisions about cheaters, so I think that the person witnessing the cheating will have to make the best judgment call.

i dont think its right that ppl cheat but i dont think its right to report it either.. idk guess just the way i grew up.. no one really likes a snitch... sooner or later the ppl that cheat will get caught like many have said.. but its not effecting you so y bother worrying about other ppl.. i personally worry bout myself the class is hard enough as it thus stressing over other ppl.. but i guess its good to get those punks out the class =)

Cheating always catches up with a person. Maybe not right away but inevitably. It's not necessary to report them, they'll get found out.

THANK YOU!! as for the cheater I mentioned earlier, if I ever walked a family member into the hospital and found out such person was my family member's nurse, I would FREAK OUT!!! I would be very scared for my family member's health...

i wouldn't say cheating is evil... lol that's a little harsh.

i personally would mind my own business. however in biology i once sat next to a girl who would NOT STOP LOOKING AT MY PAPER DURING AN EXAM! i was so angry and annoyed and i thought about telling the professor but i kept thinking about in kindergarten when we would "tattle" on someone and the teacher would tell us not to tattle hahaha i also didn't know the girl's name and didn't want to get out of my seat during the test... i just kept giving her the evil eye hoping she'd get the picture. i've copied people's homework before but i'd never cheat off someone's test.

I don't mean to sound harsh but you need to focus on YOU. yes, i'm pretty sure we've all encountered cheaters that don't want to put forth the effort to EARN that good grade but its their life and not yours. I've seen people report cheaters many times to the professor and the professor did nothing about it. However, the person that decided to tell became the #1 disliked student in the class. Why? I don't know but I didn't worry about because the time spent worrying about cheaters can be spent on my studies. So, Just focus on YOU. I'm pretty sure they won't get far with those habits.

To those of you who are blowing this off: Academic dishonesty isn't something ANY worthwhile educational institution tolerates. At all. And further, NO instructor wants their name behind a student who doesn't really know the material.

On my end: I figure, after I've notified my prof of what I know, I consider my job done. I'm not in class to be a policeman nor to be liked, yet I've never met a student who "likes" someone who cheats off of them and others. Furthermore, I don't care if my classmates don't "like" me if I report academic dishonesty I've observed (and how would they know, anyway? It's not like I'm advertising that I'm honest and reporting the cheaters.)

I want as many of us as possible to learn and prosper in this journey. It's a tough road, afterall, and the ones who last are going to be incredible nurses who I hope to work alongside someday (at least that's my expectation, at this point.)

i agree with you. i know that i would get really "******" if someone was cheating off me. i wouldn't just sit there and do nothing, that's just not me. i study hard and i dont want anyone to get off easy by copying off me. unfortunately, there are people that dont want to get involved (it's fine if someone is cheating off sheets or someone else) but don't you have problem with it if someone is cheating off you?

i want to ask a question to all the people reading. what if you caught someone cheating off you? would you ignore it or would you tell the professor (if you couldnt move/hid your answers)?
