I am currently a high school English teacher and becoming very burned out. Before I became a teacher, I had thought about going to nursing school. Well, I think now is the time for a career change. I am not sure how to go about this. My first thought was to enroll in an LVN program and become certified, then move on to an RN program. From the research I have done, it seems that it takes a year to get the LVN certification. I would need to do this part-time and keep my current teaching job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live in the Dallas area.

Hi,
I think its a great idea to think about moving forward before your current job becomes unbearable. I started as a LPN so that I could figure out if nursing really was for me and I have no regrets. FWIW I managed to work 30+ hours a week throughout LPN and then the RN program so you don't necessarily have to give up your income. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Wow! Teachers are leaving by the masses. 8 months until I graduate from my RN program!! Good Luck. You'll find quite a few former teachers or teachers looking to leave the profession here on allnurses.
