Changes to NC programs

I am in the AP program in NC. I previously worked in ICU and since I have been in the AP program I have not been able to find a nursing job. I have over 2 years clean. I recieved a letter from the BON stating that they have changed how you can sucessfully complete the program: either clean drug screens for 3 years with a nursing job OR 5 years of clean drug screens even without being able to get a job. This makes me happy 😄 knowing i will be done May 2018 even if I am unable to find a job in nursing. I was getting really discouraged for a while but just wanted to share my gratitude today. Hopefully changes will come to other states as well.

I know.. Sigh.. In ohio it seems nearly impossible to get into the AP- my lawyer said she has not had anyone for a couple of YEARS get in.. My fall from grace and all its detail will always be public and viewable. My horrible addiction that lead me to the worst times of life will have an electronic trail that will follow me to every job or career. My children will see it, my previous coworkers...

The saddest part? I knew how firm Ohio was compared to other states and I was doubly afraid to reach out for help. Desperately trying to get control of the hell I was in. I heard that the EAP programs would turn you in, that your doctors would (probably not true??), that you would have public discipline and probably permanent restrictions.

Keep your head up you can do this and will overcome it!

Yea, all mine on nur.sys......but you know what, hasn't held me back.....27+yrs ago....is history,......

returned to critical care successfully, and several dON, in LTC.......today I am a better nurse for it

That's sound good. Wish all states would adapt that. Unfortunately many nurses in recovery carrying a license with restriction can't find a nursing job. This will make it possible for those who can't find employment to succeed with this program and move in With there lives. Happy!!!
