CEU's in Ohio?

Nurses General Nursing

I was licensed in 8/2015, and worked as an RN until now- going to stay at home with my babies. I checked and my license needs renewed by 10/17, but I'm confused how CE's work in Ohio.

I know I need need 24 CE's, and 1 of them needs to be related to Chapter 4723. I have a friend who said she does a workbook and takes a test, and that takes care of all her CE's but the 1 that is related to Chapter 4723. So:

What's the cheapest way to get CE's from home?

What do I have to do for the Chapter 4723 CE?

Any help would be GREAT, I've read the OBN website and forms and just can't seem to make sense of it. Thanks so much!

I worked in Ohio for 8 years - yes you need 24 CE's, and one of them must be law-related. The hospital that I worked for provided online options as well as monthly free presentations for CE's that covered the requirements. I've never heard of the workbook that your friend has mentioned. I know there are some free sites that provide CE's, as well as paid sites and organizations that provide CE's.

A Google search for the Chapter 4723 "law" requirement shows that "To qualify, the CE must be approved by an Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) Approver, or offered by an OBN approved provider unit headquartered in the state of Ohio."

There should be a book that comes out soon that you do the CEs and pay 25 bucks. The quickest route is through online. My work puts out a legal CE shortly during nurses week. I have done a handful through the ENA. I also have did a handful through my work's CEs. The rest of the CEs are generally from my MSN program.

I received my Michigan book. I would look for it around April or May since I do not know if the people releasing the CEs will realize Ohio pushed back the date this year since I renewed in June.

Thank you so much, very helpful.

Do you know who puts out the book?

Great info, thanks! How do you know if a site is credible & OBN approved?

This will also be my first year renewing my license in Ohio. To be frank, I have no idea how to go about doing it or submitting my CE's to the board of nursing. Do I save my certificates or is there a way to do it online?

If it is your first renewal after licensure by exam (IE new grad that took the NCLEX in March 2015 or later) then you don't need any CEU's.
