CEU costs!

Published

Got in under the wire again, thank goodness. But, wow, the costs keep escalating. Got 46 hours of CEU's for $40.00 this time, but I remember when I could get 30 for less than $30.00. Anybody else think this is just another way to grab our hard earned money?

Yeah it is frustrating and time consuming. Most of the free sites offer 1 ceu at a time so I usually just end up paying 30-40 dollars for the entire 30. I personally dont see the point, I honestly cannot remember my CEU literature so the only good it did was to provide an out of state company with money.

We have to have 3 hours of credit that deals with end of life care but I dont deal with that at my current job. The concept looks good on paper but in reality, nursing has so many changes in everything from practice, medication, equipment, etc. Everyday at work is continuing education for nurses that we should get credit for.

Hi Noryn,

I at least have to have something I have some interest in and can stand to read for taking CEU's. I did O.K. this year, got a total of 46 hrs CEU's and only cost 49.00. I take 30 CEU's yearly, that way if I am ever audited, I will have more than enough to satisify the BON. I look for the cheapies, but they are getting harder to find. Wish Clinitron and some of the other supply companies would give a few free ones for having to sit through the boring inservices on how to use their supplies. LOL.

It wasnt too bad when I worked in a hospital because ACLS and PALS were counted toward the credits and there were often tests on our units (with the answers of course) but when I left the hospital I have to remember to do them.

Our CEU requirements will probably change next year too. I think we will have to do 12 each year instead of doing 30 within 2 years.

Usually there is a book that I get in the mail that has green designs on it that have pretty good deals, I think 3 years ago I just did all 30 of mine on death and dying and it was around 30 dollars.

Trying going to www.medscape.com. You can read articles, review conferences and get your ceus for free. They have some really great topics, and they have a ceu tracker where you can keep track of how many you have and print out certificates anytime that you need them!! Good luck.

Thanks so much. Wow, you are in the real snow belt but so pretty up there. Where do you work? Seems to be lots of growth and change going on in that area in last few years. Have a great day.
