CES and make-up courses

Hi All

I have just graduated as a RN in South Africa, having done the bridging course. I have already applied to the Texas nursing board to do the nclex exam. They require I do the CES thru CGFNS. I am currently doing make-up courses and clinical hours in psych and midwifery, on my days off, and should finish these in August.

Should I apply now to CGFNS, and not mention the make-up courses?

I was thinking that they could in the meantime verify my enrolled nurse course and license, RN course and license, and then request the make-hours from me. By that time, I should be finished with the make-up courses, and send it to them, and be approved a lot quicker.

I know that a lot of RN's don't even know they require the make-up courses.

Or should I wait until I have completed the make-up courses to apply for CES?

With the first option, would I have to apply for CES a second time, once I have done the make-up courses, or is something they request as part of the first application?

Many Thanks

Meloniez

Meloniez, have you thought about applying into New Mexico instead? Theyll evaluate your transcript for you and dont require anything from CGFNS. Plus, New Mexico is a compact state, just like Texas, which means your New Mexico license is valid in Texas AUTOMATICALLY. No endorsement needed.

Furthermore, New Mexico will issue your license even if your fingerprint background check isnt done processing yet. (Unlike other states). Theyll issue you the plastic card that is the permanent license even if you dont have a Social Security Number..

Just a suggestion. I hope it helps broaden your options.

Ethan, thanks for that info. I have already paid the fee to the Texas board and submitted my fingerprints. They say that once CGFNS approves CES, it should only take about 10 days for the ATT.

wrong information!!@!!:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

compact licence does not exist if you are a foreign nurse. you do not have a legal residence in the us. you must maintain a legal residence in the state where you are getting the initial license for the compact part of it to be valid. i seriously doubt that you are going to pay for an apt in nm, and one in another state at the same time.

this is the only way that a comopact license is valid.

I actually asked that friend of mine who went to practice in NM suzanne...she's over in some other compact state...and her license is from NM...NM only asks proof of residency...and she uses a utility bill in NM for that...i believe it was a phone bill..or cable or something like that. (THere were 4 things on the list they asked about proof of residency.)

I copied this off the NM BON's webpage:

(kindly check if i've misinterpreted something)

Open Letter To all Nurses with a New Mexico License

Dear New Mexico Licensee:

Effective January 1, 2004, New Mexico implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact. This compact serves

as an agreement among states to mutually recognize each others’ licensees. These states who have adopted

the Compact are referred to as party states.

In order to enjoy the multistate licensing privilege, the Compact requires that the RN/LPN be licensed in

the party state in which he/she permanently resides. This license is known as a home state license. The

RN/LPN must meet the following criteria to obtain and retain the home state license:

Have current NM:

1. drivers license or

2. voters registration or

3. residence as noted on current federal tax return or

4. utility bill (s) in licensees name

...as you can see, there are "or's" between numbers 1 to 4. My friend left last year and just pays some bill to retain her home license. That's what she told me anyway. Anyhow, i think she declared residence in NM when she applied, i dont know the details...but shes actually somewhere in Tennessee.

It doesn't matter when she applied for the license, if she does not maintain a legal rsidence in that state, then the compact license is null and void. The license will be valid only for New Mexico.

She has to show prrof of paying income taxes in the two states, etc. Essentially also paying rent for an apt or some type of housing. Some bills alone will not cut it with the IRS. And she definitely is not voting. ; Please do not give out information that is against the law. This bulletin board is viewed around the world.

The compact ruling states that the nurse must maintain a legal residence in the state where the license was issued to be able to use the compact part of it. And I doubt that any of the foreign nurses coming over are going to maintain two different residences.

Very well, suzanne, i submit to your judment of this matter...and for my part, i did not have any intent to mislead nor give out information that is against the law. Nevertheless, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
