Many hospitals employ CNAs (though they may "retrain" them--usually paid classroom and unit orientation where you practice old skills, learn some new ones, and learn the hospital policies). They may be calls Patient Care Techs, Clinical Assistants, etc.

If you're looking to become a nurse, CNA would be better--IMO--than EKG tech. You'll get more continuity with patient care, a *much* wider variety of patients, etc. The skills are more closely related to those needed for nursing than that of an EKG tech.

Either way--good luck!

I agree, you'll really get a feel for whether or not nursing is for you by do the basic patient care and working alongside nurses. The experience is priceless. Good luck!
