Hi all,

On my unit I am helping to review all of our policies and procedures... it is fast becoming clear that a lot of the policies are outdated and established through tradition rather than research. I am looking for any help with central line protocols. I would love to get some different protocols to study before forming our own. If anybody can help it would be most appreciated. Please PM me if you can help and I will send you my email address.

Thanks

Hello,

I am doing an evidence-based research project for a course I'm taking this summer. Maybe I could help you out. All I need from you is a clinical problem that needs study. Got any ideas? Hopefully this could help both of us.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but a few protocols from the oncology/medsurg floor in which I worked are:

transparent drsg change q3 days

cleanse with chlorhexedine

NS then heplock flush when not in use qshift

TPA when no positive blood return after heplock sits x2hrs

please take the time to read the 2002 CDC quiedlines for preventing catheter related bloodstream infections. Also you can use the 2006 INS quidelines and the INS also publishes a procedure manual ---call them or visit their site---they are always helpful. you will also discover as you get into it that there are many issues still controversial or unresolved---some practices will still be performed based on minimal levels of research and tradition. t is a constant process keeping up. I have written most of our policies and procedures (IV THERAPY) for years now and I can tell you that in the last couple of years there has been tremendous advances and changes in infusion therapy. Keep posting when you have specific questions
