Cen

I'm considering taking the CEN exam but people in my ER are kind of discouraging. I've heard it's terrible and stressful. I need someone to give me some encouragement.

How did you study for the test?

What books did you use? Is there a cheaper way to get them. I have looked on Ebay and Amazon but they are so expensive. I don't want to buy one and not like it and waste all that money.

I would love any tips or advice!

Are you currently on deployment?

Just throwing ideas out here - think there's any chance a contractor or DOD would need TNCC or CEN classes brought overseas?

Mwboswell. was your last question directed at me? (Regarding deployment.)

sorry about that - yes it was...

those numbers are almost a year and a half old.

and I'm suspicious that they just copied them from the page they had up before May 2007.

I spoke with the BCEN representative at the ENA conference in September and was quoted approximately "eighty percent" pass rate.

Where are you located? If you don't mind me asking. Just city and state, you don't have to say the name of your hospital.

Fort Wayne, IN

Hey, don't kill the messanger. Simply quoting information on the official BCEN CEN FAQ page.

As far as the other question: I am not sure. While I indirectly support DOD activities, my employer is not a DOD contractor per say. We employ very few nurses and I am in fact working under a paramedic job description. The dedicated nurses are from the Filipines and South Africa. As I understand, the equivalent of a US RN license is required for somebody to sit for BCEN exams. The US mlitary does recognize CEN as continuing education through the DANTES program, so you may find a need with military nurses.

Bjaeram: 2001 is not good enough. The new items may not be covered by 2001 material. For example, you may be asked questions about supra glottic airways such as the ETC and LMA. I had to answer a few on ETC placement and verification. In addition, you may see questions on V4R's and RVI. Tyr to find up to date material and guidelines.

In addition, take some time to read the other CEN threads. They contain a wealth of tips and pearls.
