Any nurses out there working as CDI specialists? I'm interviewing for a position and would love to hear from a few people who work in the field.

How did your interview go? I've also just found this mysterious world of CDI.

I'm a relatively new (6 months) CDI. I love it! Ask away if you have any questions. :)
Thank you! I'm having trouble breaking into it. I have a friend that's in CDI and she's gotten me interested but I'm not sure how to go about finding someone to hire me! I'm an RN with a little over a year experience on a progressive care unit. All the CDI jobs I see want previous experience or a coding certification or CDIP. But to get your CDIP you need experience to sit for the exam! I feel like I'm going in circles. I guess right now I'm just wondering if I take a CDI course if that's "enough" experience/training to be hired. I'd hate to shell out $$$ and not get a job.
I know at our place we fully train new hires -there's a test to assess your med-surg skills and it requires 5 years floor experience and a bsn. I had to go train out of state for a week to learn the basics then had three months of additional orientation. I love it so far!
Well I have my ADN and only one year of experience í ½í¸ I just know floor nursing is not for me anymore. The other work from home option I've looked at is doing something with insurance. I'm still researching to find a way to get into CDI with a credential or course, but there's not a lot out there on how to go from RN to CDI.
There are CDI bootcamp training courses but I'd check with a potential employer to see if that will be good enough since they are very expensive. Our hospital requires someone with extensive clinical experience as you are required to review charts from a wide variety of specialties and need to know what to query/etc. The certification requires two years experience so I don't have that yet. :) We can't work from home as we have to interact with the docs AND we still have paper charts.
Insurance might work although they have never wanted to hire me for some reason. :)
