Has anyone in CO taken online prereqs recently? I found a few threads on ccconline, but they were several years old. I am currently enrolled at FRCC, and was thinking of taking some classes online over the summer. I will have my kids home with me, that way I won't have to worry about childcare and I can still do things with them. I won't have a set schedule if we have something planned one day.
What classes did you take online? How did it work. I was looking at the science classes (I have taken science classes at a university and always hated the labs. Well, I loved the labs, just usually got stuck with crappy partners). I know the cost will be higher. But is it really doable doing the labs at home? I know they send you the lab kits with everything, but what about a microscope. Do you get that through them, or someone else? I still have to take A&P and Micro, and if I decide to do one class online, I might do all of them that way if it works out. Then I can keep using the microscope and it won't feel like a waste of money.

I took some classes through CCConline, mostly gen ed. and also patho. I would be very cautious about taking science courses online. I felt that I missed a lot of things in patho that I should have learned and now am having to go back and review, and the teacher also informed us that taking online courses is harder and requires more work (and she was right)! I also had another friend in NS that took path online and was not all that thrilled with the science course online.
I do know how you feel with kids - I have 3; but I found a local high school girl to watch them a few mornings a week when I went onto campus for some of my science classes, and that worked much better and I know I learned much more (especially micro - playing with bacteria is fun)!
Only you know what works best for you, but your science courses are your foundation that will be referred to again and again. Good luck!

I took classes through CCConline as well. I took Micro, Patho, Chemistry and a couple of other gen courses. I didn't have a problem with the online science classes. I felt the labs were appropriate and learned quite a bit. It does require more time and you do have to make sure you do your labs early as some require several days to complete. I have 9 kids, but I have older teens to watch the little ones. As for the microscope, I bought mine. I have loaned mine out to my coworkers who are now doing rn to bsn programs.
Thanks for the input. I'm going to talk to school and try to find more people that took online classes.
Evieinco, where did you buy the microscope? How much was it?
I bought the microscope when I bought the labpaq. I think it was an extra $150 or so, in addition to the lab paq.
Great, thanks! I looked online for microscopes online, some aren't too expensive, but they can be! I still haven't decided yet (I don't register until April), but I'm considering all my options.
