CCBC student planning for BSN program

What campus are you taking classes? If I were you, I'd meet with a counselor to determine what classes are considered humanities, social science, and general Then select classes that are interesting to you, but nothing too challenging because you want to be able to devote your energy to getting really good grades in your core sciences like a&p, micro, etc. colleges want to see high grades in core nursing pre reqs so if you wear yourself down with other challenging humanities classes it might affect your ability to get good grades in the classes that really count.

Thanks for the help. I go to the Catonsville campus and want to apply to the UMSON Baltimore campus. I did go talk to them and they werent overly helpful but gave me a really great site, Artsys.com, which lists and compares schools in Maryland so I kind of did it on my own. Unfortunently Most of the schools require so many different classes, so i am trying to pick the ones that will allow me to apply to the most programs. Its seems like I am only apply to CCBC, UMSON and Towson for the time being anbe able to have all of their required prerequs.

Another question was I do currently have my CNA and all that with prior experience. I wanted to know if it would be more beneficial to get into UMSON by working part-time, or Volunteering at UMMC and get a certificate, or a little of both if it was possible?

I deffinently understand the sciences are the most important and as you said, I didn't want to bring down my grade for because of stupid electives.

Do you know if your current job offers tuition reimbursement or any incentives to go back to school? i just got accepted into ccbc's RN day program, but i don't have a cna or any prior experience, so it's great that you do! i've read some schools require letters of recommendation and/or essays in their applications (ccbc didn't) so i'm sure your prior experience will help with things like that, at the very least. perhaps you could make an appointment to speak to counselors at each school you're interested in to get an idea of how their program is run, what classes they'd recommend, etc... and take a notepad to take notes because i'm sure every school is different! good luck! :)

Thanks. Yeah every school is different. Ccbc apparently doesnt consider anything at all other than grades. But there Bsn program only has 25 slots, and you cant even apply for it. They come to you about it. Umson has a lot of other factors they look at like experience, recommenadtions, volenteer work, and the essays. It seems like Towson is pretty hard to get into. I am not sure if I should even waste my time because I would have to also take an extra elective just for that program.

If you dont mind me asking because your already in did you plan on getting your bsn at ccbc or just associates? Also would you be willing to tell me what your gpa was. Thanks for the help

CCBC only offers an ASN because it's a community college. From what I understand, community colleges only offer associates. CCBC does offer a bridge program that combines classes at both CCBC and Towson and that way you could end up with a Bachelors from Towson. I already have a bachelors so I don't mind just doing the basic CCBC route. Right now I have about a 3.2 gpa and got an advanced score on the TEAS test.

Don't rely on Artsys! I applied for the current application cycle and went based on Artsys info, I now have to take College Algebra in 2 weeks over the winter because the math class Artsys said I could take isn't accepted. Call UMSON and be sure every class you sign up for us transferable and accepted! Artsys is a good skeleton but not 100% accurate.

Moonwisper- have you considered the dual enrollment ccbc/Towson program? ADN and BSN should be obtained in 2.5 years.The only classes you need beyond what is required for admission into CCBC nursing program are nutrition, statistics and chemistry.

One benefit is that most of your credits are obtained at the community college cost.
