Hey, anyone out there apply to CCAC Nursing Program for Spring 2012? Haven't seen a thread for it yet, so I started this one. I got my acceptance to Boyce Fast track a few days ago! Hoping to meet some other new admits!

Hey there. Congrats to you!! I got my letter I guess about a week ago and anxious to get the package to get started.... Are you as confused as me with what needs to get done and when???? I am also at Boyce for fast-track. I have been pricing stethoscopes and cuff's but waiting to buy!!

Hey! I got into the Boyce Fast-Track program too and have been waiting for more information, I'm newer to the area so I don't know that many people and am anxious to get started on everything that needs to be done before January. Congrats. Let me know if you guys get anymore information!

Congrats to you both! I have only recieved my acceptance letter so far. Standing around the mailbox everday waiting for more information. I know we will have a mandatory orientation sometime before class starts, and a uniform fitting. As for supplies, I already have a stethescope and BP cuff, though I don't think the cuff is neccessary. Let me know if you hear more!

Hello thank you for starting this, i was checking periodically to see if anyone was on here for the fast track program...

I also was accepted to the fast track program at Boyce. I have been stalking my mailman waiting for the info packet to arrive. I did call the North Campus today just to double check that i was not missing anything and the woman told me to just hang tight for the packet and then go from there! I have so many emotions from nervous to excited, can't wait to start the next journey!!:) I'm hoping to hear something soon and will keep you all posted when my packet arrives.

Hi! I received my packet today, it seems like a lot of information all at one time and that the first semester expecially is going to be pretty expensive with books, uniforms, and other supplies. The lottery options make me nervous too but hopefully we'll know more on the 15th at the mandatory registration. Let me know what ya'll thought of the packet. And did ya'll register for other classes you may need. For example, I went ahead and registered for A&P1 because I didn't want to wait around in fear the section I needed would close. Let me know!

I got my packet today too!!! It's really setting in now.....i'm starting to get nervous. I have all my classes done except for English Comp 2 which i am not taking this semester so they told me no need to register until the Nov. 15th. I have a friend going through the program right now and she said that books and uniforms are a big expense in the beginning but alot of it will carry through the entire program. I am curious on how many uniforms to get but i guess they will advise us of that at the registration.

I received the info packet yesterday too! It's a bit overwhelming with all of the things we have to do. I'm sure they'll let us know all about our uniform requirements at the meeting. I still have to take A&P II, so the scheduling has me uneasy, I'm not sure if I should register for it now, or just wait...Anyways, keep me posted on what you guys are getting done, and I'll see you November 15th!! Any other nursing students, please feel free to comment too!!!

I am in NRN 101 right now. Just thought I would share some stuff with you if you want. This is information that works for me right now but your results may vary...

On the uniforms - one set is fine but if you can afford two of each of the top and bottom, that is good. The lab jacket you need to wear when you go to the clinical to complete your paperwork the night before, when you go in and out on clinical day and when you go to the cafeteria. One is fine really. There is also a warmup jacket. You probably will only wear that like a lab jacket. You dont really get cold during the clinical (no rest). We are not allowed to wear long sleeves under the tops so the warmup is what you can wear if you do get cold. You can always order it later.

Get good white shoes. ALL white. I got tennis shoes that were white and expensive but my feet dont hurt. White socks (not noseeems). I got padded runner socks that are ankle high. They are heavenly.

Stethoscopes - THEY have a really good deal on these in the bookstore. $22 i think it is and you get the pen light, scissors and all that for that price. It really is a good deal. Having your own cuff (a $12 one is great) is really a good thing so you can practice BPs on everyone you know. Remember to carry it with you in your bag at all times. My campus doesnt use the bag - so I just got a bookbag from LLBEAN (guaranteed for life).

On the books - definitely get the fundamentals book. Everyone told me we didnt need the books and could do the semester without them. They must have heard this was being circulated because we were POINTEDLY asked if we did the reading often through the semester so far. You will definitely need the NURSING DIAGNOSIS book about eight weeks in to the semester. It is a small little book with bad reviews (because no one knows how to use it unless their instructor explains it!). I bought the assessment book (it was a good thing to have), the clinical companion for it and fundamentals. Then later I bought the drug therapy (and its study guide) when we got to that part. If you sign up for amazon with your edu address (you can forward it to your home address), you get free shipping with prime OR $3.99 per item next day shipping. This was very helpful this semester! Any book that has a study guide, if you can afford it get it. It will help with studying.

On binders and all that - get a good one - it will get a workout. Stay as organized as you can. Stay up on things. Read the assigned readings. Review your notes nightly. If you dont understand a term, look it up. Seriously, stay on top if it all. Oh and get a badge holder for clinicals.

hope this helps.

Thanks so much, sewnmom! I'm sure it will all come in handy for us when we start! Keep us updated on how it's going for you! Hope you have a good end to your semester!

I am in the Fast-Track program starting this spring too! I am so relieved that the app/acceptance part is over and now a bit nervous to start. I have not yet received my packet :( Can anyone tell me the vaccinations that are required prior to start? Sewnmom, great advice! Thanks!!

YOu should get your packets soon. You can get titers and just get the vaccines you need or didnt have. I had to get an mmr booster since my titer was borderline - my doctor said she was playing it safe. I also got a FLU shot - glad I did. I have not gotten sick yet. You do need the hep vaccine (3 part) all that. I had chicken pox titer and I was ok so no vaccine. I dont remember them all off hand. I am doing paperwork now for my clinical tomorrow or I would dig it out. Sorry I cant do that right now. Just took a quick break to reply!

Good luck to all of you! Congrats.
