Hello everyone!
I have a decision to make... I suppose it is a good dilemma to have.
I need to make a decision regarding a job offer.
I recently accepted a new position working 1:1 with children in the school district ( not an employee of the school district, an employee of an agency who is contracted with the school district). While it started off kind of slow due to school being cancelled ( inclement weather), I kind of like the relative low stress ( compared to what I used to deal with), the interactions with the kids, and I LOVE being home by 4:00 pm. Plus the hours will allow me to persue other things, either PT or casual , to keep things interesting and/or for extra $$. My benefits with this position are not effective yet.
However, I recently got another job offer which will be primarily M-F, but 24 hour on call. It is a salaried position , not hourly. There is also some travel. The salary seems a little low, but the benefits seem excellent, and mileage is reimbursed. I feel being responsible to be " on call 24/7" would inhibit me from doing other things . A lot of things can be handled over the phone - i.e. I can advise send pt to the ER, however, there may be times I would need to physically go in. If I am picking up a casual shift elsewhere , this could pose a problem because 1.) I may not be able to answer the call in a timely manner, and 2.) it is a situation where I need to go in... now what?
Also, I can see this potentially being an issue for family events, etc. for similar reasons.
What would you do?

I wouldn't take a salaried, 24 hour on-call job. :***:

I would not take a job where you're on call for 24 hrs 5 days in a row. That's insane!

The on-call is unrealistic as you realize. And they are very REAL worries.
Also, salaried mean one amount each paycheck. No regards to your extra time put in beyond your regular 40 hours. How will they compensate you for those on-call trips that you go in extra for.
And those visits if you have to go in extra ...snow? holidays? mother's day? superbowl Sunday?
Personally, I wouldn't do it. I want a life ... not glued to my cell.
