Many, many resources are not up to date. The NANDA-I 2012-2014 (actually, every edition) has a section showing which nursing diagnoses are removed from previous editions, generally for lack of supporting evidence over time, and noting which are new. Yes, it can matter greatly. I was involved in a legal case where substantial damages were claimed based in large part on a nursing diagnosis that had been removed from NANDA-I four years previously; my attorney client was very happy that I pointed that out to him.
I am a member of NANDA-I (I derive zero financial support from them...actually, I pay membership fees) and we recently voted on a passel of new diagnoses and changes for old ones. The new edition will be 2015-2017 and should be out late this year.
Thanks Esme and GrnTea for pointing this out. USE CAUTION people and check with the most recent NANDA nursing diagnosis book to make sure the diagnoses and interventions are still current.
