Can i still apply

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So im in a rough situation. Currently taking my pre-nursing pre requiste at a community college and i'm also at a university taking classes for my major. But my grades has dropped in the University so I'm on suspension cause my gpa is less than 2.0 its a 1.75. But my grades for pre nursing pre requisite is a 3.0 at the community college. I was thinking could i still apply to nursing school even tho my pre nursing pre req is good in the community college? I was planning on applying in the fall this year

Whether you apply at the community college or the 4 year college they will want your records from the other. So you are going to have some issues there. You really need to bring up your grades to an acceptable level. At my school you need a C or better to pass but really all A's is what you need to get into the program.

Yes, but I can't bring my gpa above 2.0 at the University since Im on suspension for a year. I know I have to send both transcrips from the community college and from the University. So my question is do nuirsing school look at the pre req or everything sinc i changed majors.

They will look at everything probably. You need to find out from an advisor. You need at least a 2.5 to apply at my school and they want your transcripts from any school you have ever attended.

You'll have to find out what the minimum cumulative GPA is at the school to which you're applying. Be aware that programs are EXTREMELY competitive, and anything below a 3.0 almost anywhere in the country (and in most places, much higher) will not be competitive, even if it's above the minimum requirement.

It would be smart to evaluate WHY your GPA is that low before you try to launch into nursing school. You'll need solid study and time management skills, as well as a strong grasp of English grammar and punctuation. If you can, try to retake any courses in which you earned low grades. The GPA improvement is good, but the knowledge is even more important.

It depends where you're applying. Are you applying to your university's nursing program or the community college's nursing program? Talk with your advisor at the school which you wish to apply to. They will tell you GPA requirements and odds of getting accepted. They may suggest for you to retake classes which you did poorly in. Nothing wrong with retaking a class, though, I retook several. Good grades and time management are very important! Try to develop good study skills, nursing school is tough. Good luck :)
