Published

Hi guys,

I am a foreign educated nurse and I applied for NM BON. I have given NCLEX 3times but no luck.I don't want to take refresher course b'coz it is very expensive. Can I go through whole process again and apply in another state?:o

Thanks

The NCLEX is a national exam - so its the same test in each state.

I am going to move your post to the international forum so that you get more answers/suggestions.

You could apply to another state but will have to declare that you have sat it before and failed. The remedial class may help you pass if you are already in the USA

Thanks for ur response.

I live in NJ and I am thinking about applying in NY state. Will they accept my application or they will ask me to complete this refresher course? Does anyone know how many psychology hours is required in NY state? In NM its 25hrs and in CA 25 hours is not enough.

Thanks again

You will have to do CVS with NY and they will make a decision based on transcripts. Process takes approx 6-8 months before you get eligibility to sit NCLEX

If someone fails the NCLEX three times, IMO, they should take a refresher course. What's the reason why you're not passing? What areas are you lacking in? Has it been awhile since you finished nursing school? I understand that refresher courses are very expensive, but at the sametime you want to get licensed and you need to pass the NCLEX and going through all channels to assure that you pass is essential. Good Luck.

Even though NCLEX is a national exam the rules for taking it (how many times, etc.) are different for each state. You can do a review course and retake elsewhere if you are at your state limit. The problem as I see it is due to the delay in actual experience time you will have a difficult time getting a job and/or making the transition to the workplace without a refresher with clinicals anyway and may still find yourself back at that step. With that being said I wonder if you have looked into financial aid for the refresher, esp if at a community college or university or at your local Worksource or Unemployment office which often offers occupational assistance in cases like yours.

At any rate, good luck on exam and best wishes. Put the study time in, you will get it done.
