I'm going to get either a digital camera or a camcorder to get some of these dissections in Anatomy lab on disk. If I ever luck out and make the open lab the students are crammed around the cat cadaver like crows over roadkill and I can't even see it! So to make it possible to study it I have to get it on my computer.

I would like to get a device that could download at least half an hour with sound so I can get the instructor to show the structures and explain them. She'll do it, I just have to get the device.

Has anybody done this?

What kind of device(s) should I be looking at?

Do I need more than a 1.2 gHz processor or 256MB of SDRAM?

Ok..here goes...I think it will depend on what really on what camcorder you get, and how you link your camcorder to your pc.

First there are new camcorder out...that link via USB...but not sure how fast the download is.

IMHO you will be just fine with the 1.2 GB and 256 MB SDRAM. Now...I have 512 MB SDRAM.....but didn't really need that much. just got a deal on it. I also have a Sony DCR-TRV 330....which has I. link DV interface. I upgraded to with a 1394 firewire.. which delivers more than 30 times the bandwidth of the popular USB peripheral. Many newer pcs come with an 1394 port now. What will make the difference in how much you can transfer is the size of your HD. I think the usual is 80MB of HD for each 20 mns of video you want to download/edit. You will also need a editing program....unless you have WIN Me or XP...I have both...and also I have another editing program that works well. But it depends on what kind of cam you have/get. Firewires transfer at rate of 400 mbps. I also upgrade my video card to allow me to have twin views and use two monitors at the same time. There are many different programs...upgrades you can get...just depends on what you want...and what qualiity of film you want to end up with...and how much you want to spend..:)

If you have a CDRW you can easily transfer the video to CD using the Roxio programs.

Oops forgot...Sony also has an I.link interface that allows you to line up your cam with any TV and transfer the video right to your TV and then to your VCR.
