Call offs and no shows

Hey Everyone!

I work in an Assisted Living in Ohio and we have a lot of call off and no shows from LPN's.

We have 2 nurses on days and 2 on nightshift. 80 residents.

When this happens, our current policy is the nurse with a star * stays over 4 hrs to help get meds out. This was put in place a long time ago, and when we didn't have many call offs. How do other Assisted living facilities address call offs?

I wish my wife's SNF did this, they just screw over the on duty nurse and they get more patients until someone hopefully (if ever) shows up.

"management is available to come help" (they never do).

Everyplace I worked at basically did this. One time I got mandated to do a triple during bad weather because people wouldn't show

Get on the phone and call the agencies.  In the mean time our ADON hangs tight to cover.  Down side is 7p-a nurses and CNAs tend to call out frequently or are ncns.  Huge burden for our ADON who is salary.   I have yet to see our DON help.    I work 7p-a, agency RN.  If I'm at home and feeling energetic I'll keep a close eye out for "Urgent need" texts.  I've been at the same place for a year so I know what to expect.  I don't respond to "Urgent need" texts for other facilities.  No telling what you'll be getting into.
