Ca. NCLEX

Hey a friend of mine has told me that If you take the NCLEX in California you can practice nursing in all fifty states. If that is true can I make an appointment in nearby California city and not be a California resident?

Your friend gave you bad info. A CA license is good in CA, unless one is employed by the VA. A person can work anywhere in the VA system with a license from any state. If you get a license in CA and want to work in another state, you have to endorse your CA license into that state. To obtain a CA license, you have to provide the Board a CA address on your application. You need to consult the website of the CA BRN for further info.

NCLEX is a national exam, and the results are accepted by all 50 states. It does not matter which state that you write it for or your locale in the world. Only the NCLEX exam has what we call reciprocity, this means that the results will be honored by all. But it does not mean that your educational credentials will be accepted automatically by each and every state. You will need to apply for a license to each and every state where you wish to be licensed.

We do not have one license that is good for all.
