A friend of mine has been questionalby diagnosed with MRSA........the doctor says she can work on saturday cause she is on atibiotics....what authority does the hospital have to not allow her to work if her finger is still red and bruised......as this is a comman outcome of resolving MRSA...

she is on antibiotics and soaking finger in warm salt water and so pus is left......just bruising....

I don't know when she started her antibiotic, but it would be logical that if she started them today, they wouldn't have had a chance to be effective for a day or so. That would be the reason for the Saturday return to work. Also, Doctors generally do an "off 3 days, then back to work" thingie...

I would say if it isn't draining and it covered at all times, she would be ok. It took a week of abx before my staph infection on my leg was looking better and no longer red.

I'd agree with Aneroo if the wound wasn't on the finger. It's difficult to keep a finger ouchie clean, dry, and covered when doing nursing duties.

It depends where on the finger it is at. A bandage with a piece of tegaderm or a finger sheath (the things that look like condoms) can provide sufficent coverage.

I don't think I would want to be the patient of someone with an open MRSA wound on their finger.
