C-section procedure question!

I had a c-section a few weeks ago. My sister and I were wondering...why do they strap the arms down? Are they worried about a pt. going nuts and swinging at things? Anyone have the answer to this one!

Not so much that the pt will go crazy, but if your nose itches and you try and scratch it, you could pull out your IV, contaminate the field, pull the drapes down and so forth. We usually release one arm for mother to touch the newborn. Besides, your arms have to go somewhere! Congratulations, hope all is well. :balloons:

our girls arms are not always strapped down (depends on the MDA), but they are rested on the armrests out to the side. We have found they do better NOT all strapped down, less fear. They are simply advised to tell anesthesia if they need to move their arms or scratch or are nauseated, etc. It' works out well, for the most part.
