C in Anatomy

Published

Hi, I am a freshman that is in Anatomy and Physiology 1 right now. I am doing really bad and I know that I will get a C at the end of the semester. Will nursing schools accept a C in A&P as an overall grade???

No one can answer this because it depends on the school. Some won't and some will, though the ones that technically accept it may rank students in a way that it places you too low on the list to be accepted. More importantly though, I would be concerned that only earning a C means that you aren't ready to enter nursing school, regardless of the admission standards. A&P is the foundation of much of what you'll be learning, and without a strong grasp of the material you are at a great disadvantage when it comes to understanding important topics like pathophysiology and pharmacology.

You can always retake A&P if you don't as well as you want. To be honest, yes, A&P is important in nursing, but it is not the end all be all, there is a lot more that goes into it. I took A&P many many years ago and just didn't get it. Fast forward many many years later and decided to go into nursing and since it had been a lengthy amount of time since I took a science class, of course, I had to retake A&P. Got an A in both classes and didn't even break a sweat. Some times it's just a matter of figuring out what you don't get.

If this is truly what you want to do, and you find yourself struggling, it's up to you to take it the extra step and look for additional resources. Look for instructional videos on youtube, or maybe resources that break it down and make things simpler. I know our nursing school had a "...Made Easy" series, like "Med/Surg Made Easy," these books took complicated concepts and just (for a better lack of a term) dumbed them down to better understand the concepts.

Oh! See...BAM! A little amazon shopping and I got ya hooked up....

I believe it depends on the program. I just got accepted into a nursing program and my grade for A&P 1 was a C. The school that I applied to doesn't allow retakes of any science class in regards to nursing. the only time I could retake it again was if I didn't get in and they only allow using that credit if it's no more than 3 years old. I really am upset that I have a C and I believe I did my best even though deep down I should've done better. Check with your school

Look into your school specific requirements. Be careful retaking classes because some schools count every attempt which could end up hurting you in the end. My advice would be to try to make higher than C's in your other classes from this point on.
