Hi,
I am a PSU student, and an OHSU employee who applied to Linfield last year. I got on the wait list but was never accepted. I recently looked on the Linfield website and they have changed their pre-reqs. You now have to have taken EITHER 1 year of chemistry OR 1 year of biology! I can't believe this! I just finished a year of chemistry from hell and never got better than a C+! Chemistry is the only course I have ever received a C grade in. BUt it lowered my GPA enough to put me on the wait list. Anyhow, just wanted to let ya'll know that the pre-reqs are changing and OHSU is next on the list to implement a "new" pre-req program without Chemistry courses!
Good luck to everyone applying to BSN programs this fall/winter!

I share your feeling about Chemistry. Is there anyway you could possible re-take it and improve your GPA. I mean, it should be easier this time around and you might pull an A. Best of luck to you. :)

Some schools only calculate your science GPA based on the pre-req's that they require. Maybe you won't have to use your chemistry GPA then? Ugh.. It sucks to have suffered a year of chemistry without having a need for it. I should know, I got accepted to University of Portland where chemistry is not required
Congrats on getting into U of P! I hear that is the most competitive program in Portland. What is your GPA if you don't mind me asking? And what about your job/volunteer experience? Just curious!
Thanks,

I also got into U of P and just started two weeks ago. I thought I'd give you my stats. I had a 3.6 cumulative GPA and a 3.8 science GPA. I received a B.S. in Computer Science from George Fox University in 2004. I worked at Providence Newberg hospital for three years in Access Services (admitting), and also volunteered in the Emergency Department a few hours a week for one semester.
U of P is now the largest nursing program in Oregon (bigger than OHSU) and currently accepts about 140 students a year (including traditional students already at U of P). About 100 students start in the fall, and the other 40 start in the spring. Competitive students have a 3.4+ cumulative GPA and a 3.1 + science GPA.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Does U of P have a RN to BSN online program or is it all classroom?

Wow - I hope you're right about OHSU cahnging their chemistry requirements!
I looked last week at the RN to BSN program and saw they wanted 15 units of chem!
I took only one chem class since that was all that was required at the university I had originally planned on transfering to, but now think that I would probably have to start from scratch as I'm sure I've forgotten it all.
Math too. I only went to Intermediate Algebra and then took Statistics. OHSU says they want College Algebra in addition to Statistics. I'd be happy though if it was just math I had to worry about. Aside from math and chem, all general prerequisites have been completed (I think) for OHSU. I also looked into Linfield a few months ago, but don't remember how their prereqs compared.
Can anyone mention some details about either school or what they thought of the programs?

I just looked at the UoP website, and for Chemistry, it mentions one year of HS chem or one term of college level chem. If I have been out of HS for 10 years, will they still count my HS chemistry?
