BSN Pre-Reqs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I plan to apply to a nursing school for my 2nd BS next spring. Currently, I am attending a community college.

Do the prerequisites that you take have to be identical matches to what your transfer school wants? They require X but my school offers x. When I ask the advisors at both schools, they point the fingers at each other.

Can you apply when you are still taking classes? My transfer school requires you to apply by Maarch. I will be taking AP2 then and my last humanities class.

If you're taking community college classes in the same state as the BSN program you're applying to and if that BSN program is offered at a state (public) university, there is most likely a transfer agreement between the CC and the university. A lot of universities publish a course equivalency guide that will let you know how courses will transfer. Try doing a search on your intended BSN program school's website to see if that information is available.

Different programs have different policies about which, if any, courses can be in progress during the application period. In my program, admission is determined by GPA in a few classes including A&P II so it has to be completed before the semester that the student is applying. But for classes that don't factor into admission GPA can be in progress during the semester the student applies. Like I said, this is highly variable so make sure you understand your target school's application requirements!

The one class that I am concerned with is a Philosophy course. Our school doesn't offer the listed equivalent.

For my transfer program, I am going to apply to the Accelerated BSN which will start in the summer.

I'd call, generally several credits can transfer for that credit.. some schools will accept ethics, logic, world lit, or a myriad of others in its place.
