Bridging in Ontario (any options)

Published

Hey Guys, I was just wondering what are bridging options looking like for people in a current RPN program who had failed a nursing course in the past. I've been looking into it and some friends have told me that even though the university has high standards, that if you wait it out around a year you can apply again. I'm not too familiar on the information or how true it is. I was wondering how continuing education is looking like for me in the future if I want to pursue becoming a RN. Thank guys, and I know that I failed a course that I should be kept out, but can you blame me for trying to hustle, thanks again.

Hi,

I made an account specifically to reply! I read most of your threads and you and I are in the same boat, literally. I failed one course (it wasn't a prereq, but an elective) causing me to do it again. My GPA is a little low too and I want to do RN so badly. I have no idea what to do or where to go. Some schools don't allow you to fail anything in the PN program if you want to apply for the RN program. Let me know if you thought of any ideas. I hope this makes you feel better, theres plenty of us going through this struggle right now.

Hey! Yeah no, most of us are in that boat right about now, and i'm still trying to figure out which way is the best when it comes to briding in general, people say that in the gta it is really hard to bridge, but I also heard from some that if wait a year you can get it regardless of failing (this includes ryerson), im just wondering more on that information.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Waiting a year doesn't change the fact that you failed a course and it doesn't change the rules. Have you tried Nippissing?

Very, very interesting, I was actually on their website today and they said that all you need is a good gpa, didn't mention anything about failed or repeated courses although that would be a huge factor.

Have you spoke to your nursing department's coordinator for your program to see what other hopeful options are for the GTA? Ryerson will definitely not take a student who failed/repeated a nursing core course in their bridging/practical nursing diploma. This wasn't set in stone until a few years ago and when they announced it at one of the orientations it affected quite a few students who gave up fulltime employment status and had no choice but to withdraw so now this strict requirement is listed on the program admissions webpage. Those affected were provided with the option of going to Athabasca after bridging and they officially became partnered universities for this nursing program just before I finished the bridging program.

Try Lambton College/University of Windsor.

Hi danothemano...I spoke to a registrar at nipping university and she mentioned about GPA 3. But I don't find that in the website. However I think they are very flexible about failing a course or two. They are more reemphasizing on the partnerships whit their university. Please share if you have any other info.
