I'm an experienced BSN RN and I am trying to get away from bedside nursing and transition to case management. I've had a hard time finding a job without CM experience.

Would taking a CM course help?

Specializes in ICU.

We have some who were basically "on the job trained." Must just be your area; I see ads all the time for case managers.

Not really.... Courses do not count toward experience. What you need is a former or current employer. From there you can talk to the hiring director/manager of the case management department. You then give him/her your resume in conjunction with applying for a job or prior to applying for a job. Some may post that he/she only wants experience, but if the hiring manager knows you, he/she may make an exception and train you. This is how many of us got our start. Good luck!

I know plenty of nurses that were trained. As you said, I see ads all the time too. Many of the big box insurance companies will train.
