how does the board find out if you've been fired?

Sometimes when the night is slow at work and because I'm nosy, I go to my state's office of the professions website and peruse the disciplinary actions against various licensed professionals in my state. For example, a dentist in my state allowed an unlicensed person perform a tooth extraction and administer anesthesia :no:. Needless to say, he lost his license.

One person that I saw had their nursing license suspended for lying on her renewal application stating that she hasn't been fired from a position but it turns out that she was fired from 3 facilities. How does the board even find this information out? Would it need to be reported to the board? I'm just curious.

It would have been reported. The board investigates complaints, but doesn't go searching for termination records or complaints.

Facilities are not under obligation to report terms and typically do not. It sounds like in this case she was reported for unethical behavior.
