What would be the equivalent of 2 years?

"Have practiced the equivalent of 2 years full-time as a registered nurse.

Have a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in psychiatric–mental health nursing within the last 3 years.

Have completed 30 hours of continuing education in psychiatric–mental health nursing within the last 3 years."

24 months of full time employment ... 4,160 hours ... etc. You can calculate it however you want. If you are not sure if your qualify, you can always call the organization and ask.

I took it to mean for a total of the length of time a 40-hour work week would add up to over the period of 2-years.

For example, if you worked full-time for 2-years, your hours worked would be 2,080 per year, thus making your total 4,160. You would need a total of 4,160 hours (at least) to be eligible for the exam, regardless over what period of time it took you to accrue those hours (if you were part time it could have taken you six years).

Before I even thought about taking the ANCC MedSurg certification exam, I made sure I had that many clocked hours as a nurse between my last hospital and this hospital.

For ortho cert it was 1000 hours, which is loosely calculated to 2 years. (assuming 3-12s)

3 shifts x 12 hours = 36 hours per week

36 hours x 52 weeks in a year = 1872 hours of work in a year. There is no way that 1000 hours can be reasonably counted as "2 years."

If someone accepted 1000 hours as being the equivalent of 2 years of full time employment, they had a screw loose.

Thanks for the feedback. I am awaiting a reply for the ANCC. A coworker had told me that 2000 hours was considered the equivalent but that sounded way to low to me.

To be eligible for board certification (RN-BC) through the ANCC, you'll need the 30+ hours of continuing education, 2000+ hours of practice, and two years of licensure as an RN. In other words, you'll need all three requirements.

Maybe it was 2 years and 1000 hours for ortho. I'd have to go back and look it up. Too early. lol

It is-2 years practicing as a nurse and a minimum of 1000 hours (oncb.org).
