Hi.. I am about to leave for hong kong 3 weeks from now to take my nclex. What bothers me is that despite all the reviews and all, i still have this feeling that i'm disorganized and that i'm not prepared. I've been using saunder's comprehensive review cd and kaplan. I only use the book if there are questions regarding OB/pedia for i've never been to these areas:o I'm stuck being an ICU/CCU nurse;)
I still have 3 weeks more, any comments on using cds for review, anyone?..gosh...

1. Nursing in the US is quite different from what you are used to in your country. You need to review everything. Drugs that we also use quite frequently are not always available in your country. And if they are, they may be in different forms.
2. Example, Ativan IV is used for seizures quite a bit in the US, in SE Asia it is only in po form. You use Versed much more frequently in the po form. IV Mucomyst has been available there for some time but is just being seen over here.
3. Suggest that you follow the firs tip that I have posted above and go thru the Saunder's book by taking the quiz at the end of the chapter before reading it, if you get over 75% on the quiz, then go onto the next quiz, if you get less, go back and read the chapter. Not sure how you prepared to begin with or how you used the CDs. Did you review the rationale with each and every answer? This is the most important for you.
3. If you do not feel comfortable, then delay the exam..............simple as that. It is better to do that, then not get thru it and have to wait at least 6 weeks to retake it, and another complete set of expenses as well.
Hello. Thank you for your advice. Well, I wouldn’t worry much on the hospital where I practiced my specialty because Asian Hospital has helped me a lot, not to mention all the support and experienced we’ve got from some of the marvelous US doctors whose been practicing there.
It’s just that I’ve been away from the textbooks for quiet sometime now and having these butterflies on my tummy is really something. I’m not used to these! As I’ve said, I’m doing Saunders 3rd edition and the 2nd ed. textbook. I thought of reviewing Mosby’s and Kaplan also, but after reading your posts, I felt so good knowing I’m on the right track after all. I’ll stick to Saunders.
Thank you once again, I hope you door is still open next time. I’ll keep you posted on whatever happens..
