Biology Major

Hello all!

I am currently a college student, looking forward to graduate in winter with a bio degree.

My goal to be a nurse has not changed since the beginning of my college experience.

Meanwhile, I have finished all the pre-req courses that would meet with my school for nursing.

I have some silly questions to ask about how to get in to the school to build my career as a MALE:up: nurse. Now, I am a bit frustrated over not starting to research earlier, and feels like I am in a position where there is not much time to apply for next fall programs.

How long will it take for me to be an RN?

Do you have to be an RN to go to school for masters degree? or is there a joint program for this case?

I have tons of questions to ask but I figured I should start asking above questions to start off my nursing career! If someone can inform me with an overall process to become a RN, It will help me a lot to take the first step!

If you have a BS, your options are far more than some other people don't have. You can go for ADN, A-BSN or ELMSN to get your RN license. ADN offers in community college while you will get your A-BSN or ELMSN in a university. These programs are normally two years, except few ELMSN programs in some universities will take you three years. Since the RN program is very competitive, I suggest you apply as many as you can, even ADN in CC would lead you to the RN license. A lot of people with BS/BA don't want to go to CC to get an ADN because it seems like they are going backward on education. I think it doesn't matter what degree you have (ADN is a degree, not a license) as long as you have your RN license. You will do the same thing as other RNs in healthcare field.

You should do some research on the school you are going to apply. I would search nursing schools close to the area I live and their NCLEX pass rate. If you live in CA, you can go to this web for the nursing school with NCLEX pass rate: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml

Ditto with Amy2020. I'm assuming that your current college doesn't offer BSN, or you would have taken that route. If you get your associates or diploma to get your RN, you can then look into doing an RN-BSN or RN-MSN program online while you work. If MSN is what you're interested in, I would contact the schools you're interested in and ask what path most of their accepted applicants have taken. Best of luck!

I have BS in Biology also, just like you jinsooked. currently, i am applying to ADN, BSN, & MSN programs to max my chances to get into nursing program. any one of these programs would give me the RN license. once i hold my RN license, i would work on my degree via RN-BSN, RN-MSN, or Phd.
