Bio 202 Midterm @ rio

Published

For those of you who have taken Bio202 at Rio, do the midterm and final questions come directly from the quizzes and lab practicals you already did leading up to the midterm or are the questions entirely new? Any help would be really appreciated because I am completely overwhelmed so far. Thanks!

the questions are new. no repeats that i recognized from the lessons. the class is time consuming but doable. i created flashcards and reviewed them constantly. good luck! =)

thank you msiegel. i feel completely overwhelmed, not so much because the material is hard, but because there is just so much information in such a short period of time and really, no one in class to discuss it with. the lessons are somewhat vague, and the book is so detailed. i think my biggest mistake was taking the 8 week version. i must say, this is the hardest class i have ever taken, and i have already have a bachelor's degree. i have a huge pile of flashcards staring me in the face...LOL!

I have a BA in Psychology. :)

8 weeks has to be tough!! I took the 16 week course over the spring and it was very doable with 2 kids + job. Is it too late to drop and take the 16 week version instead?

I also took the 8 week version at Rio....you should look over your quiz questions but don't memorize them or anything. Complete ALL of the essays from the first lesson until the lesson right before your midterm. They will choose your essay questions from thsose so if you know them, you'll do well. There are 3parts of your test. 2 multiple choice sections and an essay section. I cringed when I found out about the essays, but I wound up doing the best in those. The essays are what saved my grade because the mid term and finals are incredibly hard. I also found that my instructor s from both of my science classes at Rio(A&P2 , Micro) graded a little easier for these essays than they normally do. Be sure to use your application paragraph about how you will use this information, either personally or professionally....or just make it up. I am about to take my mid term for Chemistry from Rio..also 8 weeks. Good luck to the both of us ;)

Thanks, everyone.

No, it's too late to drop. And I'm going out of town in Sept for a few weeks, so I wanted to get it done and out of the way. I've been on the waiting list for a while now. I was offered a placement to start this past July, but it wont work for me, so I'm trying to cram in the rest of my prereq's before I start hopefully in January. My plan was to finish Bio 202 and then Bio 205 before January so I wouldn't have to worry about them anymore before starting Block 3. That's why I'm doing the 8 week version.

Thanks for the info on the midterm and the essay questions. That helps. I get the general concepts, it's the little detailed stuff I have a problem with, mostly with the immune system. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old, and I work, so I don't have a lot of time to study.

Ok, deep breath..I'll do the best I can...I only need 60%....if I can do that, I'll be fine......;)

Bio 201/202 at Rio is a joke...sorry, but it is true. That being said, I took both 201 and 202 thru Rio. Wish I hadn't, but it was what I had to do at the time. No, the questions on the midterm have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any of the quizes or labs. It is completely new material. Concentrate on the physiology aspect of the body systems, as that is what the mid-term and final multiple choice questions focus on primarily. For example, if you are studying cardiac know specifics of blood flow through the heart, where it enters, leaves, etc. If you are studying skeletal, know how bone is formed, agonist/antagonistic relationship of muscles, etc.

And like others have mentioned, study the essay questions, those will give you a big boost in your score. Those questions are taken directly from the homework questions -- mainly the ones you DIDN'T have to complete and turn in.

Good luck. I totally feel your pain. It was an extremely hard class. You are brave to do it in 8 wks!

pediRN2b-----Brave? No I think I'm an idiot for doing this in 8 weeks. LOL!!!

What I'm worried about is that there is going to be some question about some obscure thing that was in the book, but not any of the SYL stuff. Also, I'm studying the labs, because I have a feeling there will be questions from the lab quizzes, too. I've answered all of the essays, so I have to go over and over them, so I'll be able to answer them without my notes.

I'm taking it tomorrow, so I have one more night to really study.

I am really hoping the final isn't cumulative----wishful thinking, no?

Thanks!

Ok, so I just took the midterm. A big thank to everyone for their input. Overall, it wasn't too horrible. There were a few repeats in the multiple choice part. There were are also a few questions that I have never seen before and I had no idea what the answer was. As far as the essays, one was a gimme, as it was the same question as one we had to turn it. I did have a little trouble applying a critcal thinking aspect to one of the questions, it was a general "explain the immune system."

So not too bad overall, I got a 78% on the multiple choice. Not what I would have liked considering all the time I put into it, but with the essays, I'll probably end up with a middle B.

:yeah:Good for you! Yeah, one of the essay questions is always one that you already did for homework. Also, the finale is NOT cumulative, it just goes over the material from the midterm on.

Hi! I just finished this same class - and earned a "B". I must say, I was ecstatic with the "B". The final exam was hard (sorry, but its true). The essay questions (i thought) were supposed to come from the pool of essay questions, but I found that they can even ask things from the objectives as students are to "know everything". You are correct - 8 weeks was crazy!

Everyone's exam is slightly different because of the pool of questions that they use. Mine focused more on the male reproductive system, but I have heard others say theirs was more urinary. I think it is safe to say that you should know the classic signs/symptoms of respiratory/metabolic acidosis/alkalosis. Really, anything is game.

My kids and hubby can attest that I was so very stressed.

I had an "A" going into the midterm. Then, I had "C" after that. However, I did well enough on the essay to just squeak an "A" out of that part.

None of the test questions were the same (for me) as the quiz questions. I know they have a huge pool of questions and try not to give you the same ones you already had.

Best of luck to you! Don't be discouraged. I went into it telling myself "I can do this - I know this - I can figure anything out". In the end, I was proud of the "B" and I am an "A" student. :)
