Since I have not met the new dean in person or spoken with her and my orientation was with the former dean I am to excited to hear the details!

@kaitlynelisabeth Anything you would suggest bringing with me to Orientation? (Other than something to take notes and that kind of stuff?).

Just wanna mentioned about the medical check for this program. If you haven't done yet, do it asap!! The result of the blood exam, I need to take the vaccines for MMR,Hep.B, and TD. Addition to that, I got positive on PPD on second test, so I have to take Xray. This medical requirements seems like take more than a month to complete. I'm so glad I started it early.

Personally I brought copies of everything even if I know I handed it in. CPR card, health forms, malpractice, my copy of the signed bcc nursing acceptance letter. CPR, Malpractice go to nursing department secretary. Health forms all of them go to health services. Call health services tell them you are an entering nursing student for

Sept ask them am I cleared? Ask who you are

Speaking with and write down their name

Do not leave orientation tonight without your "evolve" course packet and ID.

Even if you are not complete with your vaccination cycle for example if you still need a hep round or a tb test or varicella negative test or the chest X-ray for positive. Bring copies of what you have and let them know you are scheduled on whatever date for the next shot-

Regardless, I went with copies of everything to

Orientation, first day of class and first day of clinical. That way if they are saying you don't have it- no questions you just hand it in there on the spot.

If you don't have CPR card for whatever reason bring a copy of something showing you are registered to take the CPR course I always had a copy for my records at home, a copy for them and a copy to keep on me at all times. Don't expect to make a ton of friends I never saw anyone i sat with or spoke to at orientation again. There isn't much talking or mingling time- it's fine trust me you will be spending a lot of time with your section and begin forming relationships during clinical conference and validation skills practice- don't be upset and do not let them scare you. You got in for a reason. Looking forward to hearing the fabulous news from all of you!

LMTK make several copies of the results of your chest x ray. Don't let paperwork come to haunt you down the line. They are human they loose things too! Be meticulous about paperwork things get lost- too easily or messages do not

Hi everyone! Unfortunately, I had to leave right after the main orientation today because of work. I really wanted to stay for the nursing info session but I couldn't afford to lose a job that's paying for my classes. Did I miss anything important? I've noticed that the last page of the packet was a consent form... Do I sign it and turn it in? Please, any information will do.. let me know, thank you.

Ok, so they said that they MIGHT ask for that consent form once classes start, but you don't have to do anything in the mean time.

Here are some things I found pretty important:

*The only textbook you have to buy in the meantime is the Physical Assessment book, they said we should probably buy it right away and read chapters 1,2,3,4,5,8 & 9 before classes start.

*You don't have to get nursing shoes, as long as your white sneakers aren't canvas and they're clean, you're fine.

*Buy an inexpensive stethoscope, because you only need it for the basics.

*Get your health checklist done as soon as possible, they don't mess around about you not being cleared for clinicals.

*You are probably better off getting health insurance on your own if you don't have any because the one provided by the School will be very expensive.

*At the beginning of the semester, the days you're supposed to have clinicals, you're supposed to show up to the school say, a half hour early, go to the Nursing offices area of the college and check the bulletin board, they'll post what room each section is supposed to report to and you'll basically have lecture/lab to prepare you for when you go to off-college clinicals. (They said the exact room number this bulletin board would be posted outside of, but unfortunately, I missed it, sorry!)Just make sure you get to school early enough to find parking and figure out what room you're supposed to be at, because they'll start at 8:00am, with or without you and they made it super clear that being late is not tolerated.

I ended up leaving soon after the team of nursing student showed up since I needed to go to my job. It was very good to see many male students there.

Anyway, did anyone got scared or overwhelmed when they told us how hard this program is? Well, to be honest, I'm excited and scared at same time;).

I was immediately TERRIFIED when I found out I was accepted. I work with nurses (at a Surgery Center) and they all told me Nursing School was tough and never sugar coated their experience. I was planning on working while going to school, but now I decided I won't unless I absolutely 100% need to. I am super excited, though. By the way, what section are you in? Section 1 over here.

Yes you will have class on the "clinical days" until probably November. You do need to have your health clearance done, not before clinical. You must have it done ASAP. My fundamentals professor did not allow students to stay in class they were asked to leave. Plan on signing the consent absolutely as well as the last page of the nursing handbook (can be found on Bergens nursing site) bring that signed last page stating you understand and accept the policies of the nursing program to the first day of class. As I said make copies of everything and have it on you at all times. The "clinical days" are used in the beginning usually for lecture and skills practice. Because I am unsure of your teachers I cannot disagree or agree to those chapters. Based on teachers I can be more specific and provide lecture notes and key chapters. Private message me.

How was everyone's July 4th? I'm just being a night owl since I'm still excited by the fire works at Leonia, I guess my inner child and teenager showed up at same time.

I'm in section 003 and bit concern about whether I can manage myself balancing my job and the school. I did finish most of the pre-requisite courses and I hope this will give me some sort of the break.
