Being a mentor

Ok, maybe not all of us are able to take a new nurse (graduate or experienced) under our wings - but I have been having the NICEST TIME on my thread,

https://allnurses.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95574

It's amazing how many people are joining this site EVERY DAY! Many are brand new nurses who are looking to talk with experienced nurses for advice, guidance, support, or just to be "a part of" this incredible society we are.

Then there are nurses coming by who have been out of the field! Boy, scary, huh? to come back after all the years and all the changes - they need us to welcome them and help them re-adjust to life "on the floor/in the office/on the road" or whatever they're doing.

Then there are the ones who like me had to "retire" for a while - burn out, stress, disability, mental illness - yet we miss our patients, our co-workers - we need you to keep us "in the loop" and remind us how important we have been, and still are.

Course there are the work horses who have been working for forever, or even a few years (which can seem like forever). The ones putting in the hours, even overtime, the ones providing excellent care in spite of bureaucracy/government/administration  , in spite of ill mannered patients and co-workers - LORD they need a shoulder - an encouraging word - an atta girl - or just a word of wisdom - many are coming here for a "refill" during a break from work (if we ever get one).

Some of us are ALL DONE working - again, we miss our "babies" and each other - and my gosh, some of us are now PATIENTS, ee gads! HELP HELP!

You guys know - without each other we would all be dead - how on EARTH could we do what we do without the person standing there with just the right word, or look of sympathy? Where is nursing going, anyway? What is all the education in the world if we don't respect ourselves and each other? Who let the dogs out (who? who?)

Anyway - my ulterior motive here - pop into the "welcome" thread - or if you notice someone new started a thread - just say "hello" - if someone drops a post and you don't know them, introduce yourself.

This site isn't about money and advertising and stuff. It is really a godsend. Better than a bleepin psychiatrist's couch sometimes!

This is a little microcosm, a "mini world" - we meet on the same turf - RN, LPN, Nurses' aide, supervisor, PCA, if I left you out please raise your hand. We don't even always get along - this is a good way to ask for ideas on how to do so.

Well - s'enough from me - I just wanted to share how much fun I am having meeting nurses from all over the world and all different life and career paths - may the force be with you all - the Love force - the God force for those of us who believe.

You are all ESSENTIAL. Bless you!

I thought I was helping out a little - but turns out I'm doing something good for me too ;)

That's awesome Zoe!

Zoe you have come so far in the short time we've known each other. You have always been generous with your time and your love. You KNOW how proud of you I am. And I always will be. God bless you my beautiful friend.
