Hello everyone!
This is my first post on here :)
First of all, I've been lurking around on allnurses for about a year now...reading all of your experiences has proven to be very invaluable...so thumbs up!
Anyway, I'm currently a Family and Child Sciences major and am looking to applying to an ABSN program once I graduate
I'm attempting to gain experience and learn as much as I can about all that is nursing.
Becoming a CNA, however, has been one of those difficult things that Google can't solve for me (among other things lol).
I need information on how to become a CNA, where I can get certified, and how I can approach employers about openings and such.
I'd really appreciate ALL the info. you can provide :) I'm REALLY dying to become a CNA while in school, especially before I apply to nursing school.
Sorry for the long post
Thanks for the help, ladies and gentlemen! :)

Hello,,
Im New too!!
I am a cna/cma. I would recommend that you look for a community college that offers cna course. Theres also private training centers that offer the course but of course those are more expensive. Where do you live??

I'm taking my CNA course thru a vo-tech school. It was the only program I could find that offered evening classes and Saturday clinicals.

I'm from Florida and there was an Adult Education center that had CNA classes. And definitely through a community college or better yet a technical school.
I was a CNA for 4 years and finally got to quit to focus on nursing school. I LOVED it don't get me wrong, but I want all my focus on school. I would say I feel better knowing certain things I do about healthcare settings going in to nursing school.
As for approaching employers.. at least where I have been... every place is dying for nurses AND CNA's. The place where I just quit from was always hiring. And be open to all positions like if they only have PRN shifts.. you can always change to full time or part time later when there is a position open.
Have fun!

You may want to read through the CNA forum and post some questions there as well.
Good luck!

I'm a CNA in Virginia and in my state you have to go to school for it. Then have to take the certifacation test as well. Look into it through your states nursing board as they are normally the one that regulate everything CNA as well. I know in VA as well that after you have been in nursing school for a certain amount of time that you can test for CNA as well. Hope that helps.
