Barnes!

Does anyone know what the sign-on bonus at Barnes is right now (as of Sept 06)? Also, what is the average salary for a nurse in Stl? On salary wizard it says somethiing like 60K, but that does not seem right. Any info would be appreciated!

That number seems way high - that may be true if you have years and years of experience, but I'm suspecting that the $60,000 includes benefits as well. You didn't specify how much experience you have, but I will tell you that new grads in St. Louis are offered between $16 and $18 an hour. As far as sign-on bonuses, another poster asked this same question and we weren't sure if the bonuses were for new grads or experienced RNs. I know about a year ago Barnes was giving a $2000 sign-on, but that may have changed. Best that you get that information directly from the hospital.

We just had a Barnes recruiter at our SNA meeting. The sign on bonus is $2000 and the starting wage is $16.00/hr. Hope this helps!

Depending on what floor you go to they sometimes have sign on bonuses for up to 6000.

I know one of our instructors mentioned recently that the big sign-ons were for experienced nurses (and perhaps more rural areas) and that as new grads we shouldn't be expecting a big one....but we're only first semester, so a someday-new-grad can hope, can't they?!?! ;)

Barnes recruiters were at our October SNA meeting. The sign on bonus for new grads is $2000. No long term commitment required.(or rather someone asked if they had to sign a "contract" in exchange for the bonus, the recruiter said "no'. ) Hope that helps!

I'm about to start working at Barnes and the current sign on is 2,000. There was a special sign on bonus for certain parts of the hospital but I think that special is over. Also, they start at about 18/hr for no experience, but if you have previous experience (CNA/tech/etc), it is a little higher than that (for an RN).

If you want to take advantage of tuition reimbursement, will you still get the sign on bonus? thanks!

yep! I'm doing both. It's at 4,000 a year for a max of 3 years, so there is a cap on the payback. I have done clinicals at Barnes and at other hospitals, and the things you see at Barnes are unbelievable. I Love that hospital. It's not easy, we tend to get the sickest of the sick, but you will learn so much.

Gina, are you working at Barnes while in school? I do currently work at Barnes (st.peters), but PRN-this summer I think I want to move over to a Tech(from patient sitter) and actually work part time (20-24 hours/week). So can I do the reimbursement at that time? I will graduate Oct 2008.

If anyone wanted to know......BJC loans you up to $4500 per year as long as you commit to 1 year of service per $4500. You only have to work 15 hours per week to qualify. The loan is forgiven after 1 - 2 years of service.

My dad was at Barnes for lung CA. Cured and recieved great care. And my mom, was there this last May for a shattered right femur. Again, she recieved excellent care. If ever I leave my job that I have now, I'll go to Barnes. I feel that they just have higher standards compared to the little local hospitals that I have worked at. So, I appreciate everything you do there and please, keep up the great work!

Does anyone happen to know the staffing ratios of RN to pt in the ER at Barnes. I was told it is very high at night... as many 7 pts to 1 RN. Anyone know if it's true?
