Background Checks

What would constitute "failing" a background check? This does not pertain to me, but I read another posting where someone had "failed". I could see a felony or assault would be an example, but what else?

Aside from previous legal issues, the main thing I could see would be if there was a relevant issue such as a discipline on your license or history of certain problems such as drug/alcohol addiction, or a previous employer who gives a very negative response. These things may not be a cause for failing a background check if they were disclosed by the applicant, but if they come up unexpectedly, may make an agency think twice about hiring someone.

I also know that soem agencies and employers are starting to want to do a credit check and factor that into hiring decisions. I personally feel this is very wrong and flatly refuse to allow an employer to check my credit rating. If they don't hire me because of it - too bad....

As a former recruiter, background checks are done for legal, and license issues. I had someone not tell me the whole story on a license issue. After a conversation with them, on a hunch I checked another state for a license, and got the real story!

I had to pull their contract AFTER the facility had agreed to take them. It is always best to give a potential employer a heads up, and not let them find out things on their own.
