So, I had a meeting with HR of a local hospital last week and went in for a 2nd interview with the unit manager of the floor that I am applying for. I feel like it went really well but with so many people applying and all the competition and the fact that Im a brand new nurse, I cant help but feel a bit defeated.....Im praying I get this job! It would be a dream come true and I need it sooo badly. The unit manager is hoping to have made a decision by the end of the week. Please pray for me and send good luck my way!!!:heartbeat

No....They decided to go with someone who had experience. Story of my life!!! how can I get experience if no one will hire me? Im feeling so defeated :crying2: I'm starting to feel like I may have to apply to LTC facilities but my heart is in acute care, not sure what to do. i don't know if it will be easier or harder to get a hospital job with LTC experience... any advice???

I am still a student, but judging by the job market, you should be casting that net as far and wide as you can. Apply at acute care, rehab, surgery centers, LTC, MD offices, anywhere that might allow you to get your foot in the door and start getting experience. Apply in rural areas as well - often right now they are more new grad friendly than the city hospitals, who have plenty to choose from. You probably aren't going to get the job your heart is set on in this job market. Getting experience is first priority right now and there is NO question that LTC experience is going to be looked on more favorably by hospitals than being an unemployed "old" new grad with no experience at all.

I am sorry you didn't get that position - start applying EVERYWHERE. Good luck!!

Thank you so much for your response, you are absolutely right! Im going to apply at a LTC facility where I know someone that can put in a good word for me, I also applied to an oncology clinic and have an interview for part time psych rn position monday so at least I can say Im actively out there trying!! I will update if I get a job !

I am sorry you did not get that job. But it's good that you've bounced back from the rejection and moved on. Good luck on the interview for the psych position. I actually like psych. Please let us know how the interview went. I will pray for you tonite.

Thank you so much for posting such a personal account. It makes me feel so much better that there are a lot of us out there in this together. It is nice to be reminded to stay positive and that we just need to cast our nets as wide as possible! Are you graduated yet?

Yes I agree, at least we are struggling together and it's a blessing to have this site for support!! I graduated in October and have been unemployed since January so the pressure is mounting! I did not get the psych position due to lack of experience again!!!!!! I just wish they wouldn't call me for an interview if Im not experienced enough for them, its very discouraging!!:crying2: I did apply to a LTC facility today and it seemed to go well but the HR person warned me that what tends to hold up progress of getting hired is waiting for employment reference sheets to be filled out by previous employers, my last employer and I did not end on good terms and Im worried they wont fill out the info and delay me from working.....I don't know what to do:uhoh3:
