Hi there! So I very much so would like to start my next assignment in Austin in September after my current contract in NC finishes in August. Ive been talking to my recruiter from CCTC and spoke with another one from AMN. The recruiter from AMN said that she had heard several nurses were being canceled in Austin as well as some having their contracts cancelled all together. I was wondering if anyone else knew about this. That way I could figure out if I should rule out Austin as a travel assignment option, and look elsewhere in Texas.

Lots of travelers have contracts cancelled, sometimes for cause, sometimes for low census. Unless you hear that the very hospital you are being submitted to has a recent history of doing that (which begs the question of why are they seeking new travelers), I wouldn't worry about it. If your contract does not have "at-will" language in it, or a termination clause (often with a two week notification), then technically you can sue your agency for the balance of the contracted hours. In any case, cancellations are bad business and agencies cannot afford to staff bad acting hospitals so it is self correcting in the marketplace. I certainly wouldn't take the word of a recruiter trying to steer you away from Austin.
Ok thanks for the advice. I was a little hesitant about what to believe when the recruiter from AMN said they very rarely work with hospitals in Austin. I didn't know if she was trying to tell me about the cancellations to deter me from Austin, and sign with AMN for a contract in another city.

I know they were having an EMR conversion in Austin in the past couple months and hired a ton of travelers for that. Sometimes those conversions will get pushed back or things can change, so you have a risk of getting canceled. Maybe that is what your recruiter was referring to? Otherwise I have friends who have been there, no complaints or issues. And sometimes different companies have more presence in certain areas. I wouldn't rule Austin out if that is where you really want to go, call up a couple other companies and see what they say.
Ok thank you for letting me know that. That makes more sense as to why everyone was being cancelled, and having their contracts cancelled. Hoping there won't be an issue like that once I start looking for my 2nd assignment in August.
