ATI Test for Placement

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hi everyone,

Has anyone taken an ATI-PN test for placement into an RN program? I'll be taking one later this week and am wondering what kind of questions to expect / level of difficulty or area of concentration that's typical on these tests. I'm a little anxious and all....I have been working on practice questions but still want to hear what you guys have to say.

Thanks!

I have NOT taken that test as of yet for LPN. But from what I've heard, the tests questions are on meds (comadin, heparin, insulin, etc), the common diseases ( CF, CHF, HTN, V-FIB venous ulcer, UTI, renal failure, Resp. acidoisis, MI etc) and heck it wouldn't pay to learn a few uncommon as well, med/sugrical questions, "select all the apply" questions ( remember pt ALWAYS comes first), and basic nutriton. I hope this helps. I wish you good luck and all the best. I take my NLEX-PN next yr. :balloons::nurse:

You can go to the ATI testing site and pay for a practice test. They have a comprehensive one.

You can also buy a study book. Study all the science that has nothing to do with nursing like rocks and clouds. They asked only 2 questions about anatomy and physio and the rest were on crap I had not learned about since high school earth science....so frustrating. I have to take these ATI test after EVERY nursing class in order to advance.....:angryfire

Thanks for your replies everyone.

I've been studying from the ATI practice tests for the past couple of weeks...I take the test this Thursday so I'll let y'all know how it was.

Thanks for the info on what kinda meds to expect...I'll go over those.

I think that if you recently passed NCLEX-PN and are a good test taker, it would be fine. One thing I would suggest is to use your CDs that you studied for the boards, and if they have medication questions, that would be okay. Remember, they are not expecting you to have the knowledge of an RN just yet, so, I suspect you should be okay. Good luck!
