@#*%!! Asthma!!

I don't believe this........for the first time in YEARS I've had to miss work because of asthma! I, who never call in unless I can't get my head off the pillow (OR out of the toilet), even had to go home early last night because I was working so hard to breathe that the respiratory therapist said she could hear me huffing and puffing halfway down the hall! I was wondering why I was getting so frustrated and crabby (not that having 6 patients, discharging three of them at the same time, sending one to surgery, admitting one, and listening to another one whine incessantly had anything to do with it  ). My 02 sats were OK on room air, I wasn't too obstructed, but I was getting that way quick........I didn't realize how bad it was until I sat down for a couple of minutes and started catching my breath, and one of the department managers said "You don't look so good......do you think you should go home?"

At first I said No, of course not, but then I realized how bone-tired I was, and I still had three hours to go. So I finished up the three discharge charts I had sitting on the table, went down to RT for a nebulizer tx, and went home to bed!

When I woke up this morning, I felt even worse........it winded me just to climb the stairs in my house, and most of the time I can almost RUN up them, so I knew I'd better stay home and do my nebs at home Q4hrs. just like I make the kids do when THEIR asthma flares up. Tonight, it's considerably better........but this is so weird, I NEVER have a major attack like this without it being set off by a cold or bronchitis. I haven't been ill since last winter, when I had that horrid flu that lasted almost a month, and I've felt fine even through this.......I just can't breathe very well, is all. :uhoh21:

Hopefully it will subside by tomorrow, cuz I've got things to do this weekend and I DON'T want to have to go on prednisone. DANG!! :angryfire

Hope you feel better soon, not nice when you can't get your breath I know as I am also asthmatic, but thankfully not had an attack for a few yrs. Look after yourself (((((((hugs))))))
