I'm not sure where this should be posted but here it is. I went to an interview this morning for what I thought was for an ADON. When I got there, the Administrator said it was for an Assistant Administrator for the ALF unit. I was totally unprepared. So here's my questions. Has anyone ever interviewed for this position? What kind of questions should I have asked? Is there a website I can look at Fed/State Regs for facilities so I can learn them? Is there a program for this type of position? This is an opportunity I don't want to lose so any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

What is ALF?
Cannot help you obvioiusly, but hope you find what you need
ALF is short for Assisted Living Facility.

This job typically requires another State license... either an ALF administrator or Personal Care Home admin license (depends on the State).
You need to qualify to take the test, then take a week or more's worth of training, and then finally sit for the exam.
I GOT THE JOB! Now, does anyone have any suggestions on how I get my Administrators License? This would be beneficially not only to the facility but me as well. I will start out as a "Manager in Training", then once I learn the ropes, I will be bumped up to Asst. Admin. Thanks.
Congrats!
Your new employer should have or be able to get all the info you need. Also, inquire if they'll be reimbursing you for the costs of the program. You'll probably be expected to pay for the license.
If by chance your employer doesn't have the course info, then contact your State licensing division and ask when the next course will be run, etc.
Note that they may place you in the position on a trial basis. And once you show them you want to stay and can handle the job, then they may go forward with the above.
Good luck!
Thanks so much Havin' A Party! I'm really excited about this turning point in my career. I can't wait to start and learn everything I can and more.
