Aspiring CRNA

Hello All

I'm a new LPN graduate. I intend to become a Nurse Anesthetist. What areas do you recommend I gain experience in?

Specializes in HOME HEALTH.

I believe u need 2 b a RN 2 continue that path. My suggestion is surgical nursing. 2 c it 4 urself

Specializes in Mother-Baby, Rehab, Hospice, Memory Care.

I believe most schools require a certain amount RN experience in critical/intensive care. Since LPNs are not normally used in critical care, you should probably search for a job in acute care such as med/surg until you become an RN.

In order to be eligible for CRNA programs, you'll need to be an RN and have a significant amount of ICU experience. That would be the direction to be going.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

You will need to be an RN at the baccalaureate level (BSN degree) with several years of critical care experience (ICU, MICU, SICU, etc.) before you will even be eligible to apply to most CRNA programs. CRNA programs ideally want applicants who are RNs with extensive experience around mechanically ventilated patients.

I'm going for my degree next fall while working as an LPN. I just wanted confirmation on the areas I should concentrate on and so far its sounding like the conversations I've been having with others: intensive/critical care and surgical. Thanks for your help.
