Arghhhh Waitlisted!

Published

I received my letter today from said they were sorry they couldnt offer me admission, but I am on the "alternate" list. If a spot opens up in the summer they willl send me an admissions offer. My question is, how often does this happen? Is it likely a program will send me an offer of acceptance given they placed me on the alternate list? I had heard this particular program gave you automatic admission for anything above a 3.0... now know that is not true. Now I cast doubt on the rest of my apps and have no idea what I will do for the fall if I cant get in to a program.

I can't speak for your school choice in particular, but I do know some people apply and are accepted to multiple schools, so they turn their spots down in some schools. It's very possible (I would think) that spots will open up. I think it happens more often in some schools than others, but it does happen.

Good luck!

very much possible do not give up hope depending on your program people on the waitlist do not wait for a long time due to others choosing their first choice schools or deferring(sp?) so you could be waiting from a semester to 2-3 maybe 4 years. depends how many times they admit student a year. Goodluck and maybe you can start volunteering or working and saving because school can be expenseive

Are you on the waitlist or the alternate list? They are both two different things. One can be on the waitlist for years, while those on the alternate list have to re apply ever semester if everyone shows up the second day of class. The alternate list is a list of people that were close to getting in the program. If someone doesn't show up they call you. If no alternates are needed they simply throw the names away and you must re apply all over again some schools accept the students that were on the alternate list for the next semsters class. I am placed on the alternates list. I could hear something back from the school starting tomorrow. Wish me luck :)

Also there is aa number difference in the too. Every semster the waiting list builds up. There can be 300 people on the waiting list! A alternate list usually has 11 to 20 people. Usually the school has one and not the other. So find out if your school has a waiting list or a alternates list. In case one is wondering it is better to be placed on the alternates list :)
