Are Dialysis RNs in the US expected to know both kinds?

Published

I am a Canadian RN working in hemodialysis and considering moving to US for work. I would want to continue in my specialty in the US; however, the job postings I’ve seen say “Dialysis” and don’t really specify if it’s Hemodialysis or Peritoneal Dialysis. I have no experience in Peritoneal Dialysis (although I am open to learning) and wondering if this will hinder me from getting dialysis jobs there? Thank you!

Certainly knowing all modalities including acutes, home hemo, PD, in-center will make you a more desirable applicant. However, the two big companies, Fresenius and Davita both separate out the different modalities as far as hiring goes.

There are huge shortages in all modalities so your chances should be excellent. Best wishes

Hello. Most of the time the posting language will indicate whether the position is an incenter hemodialysis nurse position or a peritoneal or home-training nurse position.

If you are continuing to look, there are immediate registered nurse positions available at Health Systems Management.  Please follow the attached link for career opportunities: https: //healthsystemsinc.com.
